What’s The Point?
Ceilidh Band
Great news!
What’s the Point? have been invited to play at three very different festivals in 2012 - Doncaster Folk Festival, Isle of Wight Folk Festival and Moira Furnace Folk Festival. Details on Diary page or click to go to websites.
January 2011
First booking of the New Year was the Red Fox Ceilidh in Leicester and was the first of what will hopefully become a series of ceilidhs featuring various bands and callers. The first event was very well supported despite a last minute change of venue. Go to www.redfoxceilidhs.com and follow the link to Facebook to see some video and photos.
COMMENT: Fab night - thank you everyone for coming, and put 26th March in your diaries now!
February 2011
Just got back from a great gig for the Sealed Knot. Felt a bit under dressed!
COMMENT: Everybody I spoke to about the band thought that you had done a great job with the caller getting very good comments....I will be very happy to recommend you to any other Regiment requiring a similar band - all being well see you next year.’
March 2011
First two birthday parties of the year! A 60th and a 21st!
Both with loads of dancers and plenty of enthusiasm. Could do with a few more like this!
Thanks to everyone who turned up at The New Inn, Pegg’s Green for the St Patrick’s celebration. As a result WTP have been able to make a sizeable donation to the MFFF funds.
April 2011
Four completely different gigs in 2 weekends followed by Easter and two Bank Holidays! By the time Easter rolls round WTP will have done a closing down party for a hospital department, a Ruby Wedding, a pub gig and a Folk Festival. Regretably WTP will not be able to take any further wedding/function bookings other than those they are already committed to as Noel and Olga are relocating to North Yorkshire. Watch out for re-incarnations and reunions as they are bound to happen and the band is still prepared to do festivals if they are offered (there might well be a couple in the pipeline for 2012).
May 2011
Doncaster Folk Festival - another of those small value for money festivals. the ceilidh was well received and we might well be back in future...
COMMENT: ‘...thank you for giving us such a great ceilidh. the feedback we have had is that you were by far and away the best ceilidh band we have had. You encouraged everyone to dance and all including the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You will be definitely be hearing from us again.
Cheers,
John.’
Dulverton Folk Festival - and another one. Long way to travel but worth every mile. This is a small FREE festival with lots of great local artists and some from further afield so if you are down in Somerset for the Late Spring Bank Holiday be sure and drop in.
COMMENT: HI all - just having tracked you down on t'internut !
Just to say what a great time we had with you on saturday - we were very sorry to have to leave sun am but great memories of a superb session.
Good luck to all, and if you're ever down Somerset-way, let us know !
Cheers
Tom

June/July/August 2011
The last three months have been hectic both for the band and the individuals who make it up. The Jackson contingent made their annual trip to Ireland, which was brilliant as ever, followed immediately by their move to Yorkshire. The end of August found Steve being offered a new job at Leeds which brings most of the band into Yorkshire and means they may be able to do a bit more music than they thought they would. The month was rounded off with another very successful Moira Furnace Folk Festival. There are no more bookings in the pipeline but some of this year’s Festivals have indicated that they would like What’s the Point back which is always good news.
Don’t forget the festivals WTP are playing this year, Farewell Tour T-shirts will be available to buy with a free CD thrown in (or the other way around)!
